Navigators Terrestrial Globe 45x51 cm

Navigator's globe in rack. The ancient map of the globe was created by the Dutch cartographer Gerardus Mercator. He was active in 1512-1594. The globe rests in the cradle of a stunning hand-turned maritime desk stand in cherry wood with a shiny French honey finish. This type of stand was particularly useful at sea, where rolling waves often sent top-heavy objects crashing to the deck. At the globe's north pole there is also a bronze meridian ring mounted with a small polar circle and hands. Size: 45x51 cm.
